The project is structured in 6 workpackages. The workpackages 1 to 4 comprise technical actions to develop applicable planning methodologies for the implementation of the new technical approach. Workpackages 5 and 6 cover administrative aspects: the implementation into the daily work of local administration and the dissemination of the results in the CADSES. During the application the tools will be modified and optimised. The main objective of the project is to develop simple and flexible technical and administrative tools, which can be adapted to the specific needs of the partners and end-users in the CADSES.
WP1 Basic information and planning
Data collection of groundwater situation, configuration of a GIS database and a conceptual groundwater model. Survey of groundwater monitoring wells. Design of field studies like monitoring strategies, geophysical investigation and integral pumping tests.
WP2 Field studies & lab analysis
Field and laboratory investigation: Geophysical investigation, field studies as testing of monitoring wells, short pumping tests, integral pumping tests, sampling campaigns, and related laboratory work (standard analysis, fingerprinting studies). Evaluation of existing standards and methodologies.
WP3 Groundwater Modelling
Developing a standardised software tool for numerical interpretation of integral pumping tests. Application of the numerical groundwater model: Set-up of model frame, calibration with existing data, refinement according to results of WP 2. Modelling groundwater flow and contaminant transport.
WP4 Evaluation of investigation results
Assessment and evaluation of investigation results: check of conceptual and numerical model according to results of field and lab work, detailed interpretation of hydraulic and chemical data, calculation of mass fluxes, identification of the largest sources of pollution in the areas concerned, health risk assessment according to scenarios for future use.
WP5 Sharing best practice in administrative procedures
Administrative procedures: analysis of results of WP3&4 according to European, national and local regulations, diagnosis of possible administrative decisions, creation of strategic priorities, aims and measures, ranking of future activities in a priority list and set-up of recommendations for administrative decision making (Groundwater management concepts and plans). Sharing and description of best practice, set-up of recommendations for action for technical work related to integral groundwater investigation.
WP6 Management, co-ordination & dissemination of results
Project management. Communication. Internal project conferences and workshops. Seminars for dissemination and training. Final reporting.
